Hidayat Nataatmadja was born in Serang Banten, on September 15, 1932. He was ans id an ardent devotee of Albert Einstein since his elementary school life, and dreamnt to become a physicist. Yet, he had to accept the only opportunity to enter the university life in Bogor Faculty of Agriculture , university of Indonesia in 1953, and graduated in 1962 as an agronomist. In 1955-1960, he had the opportunity to work as a student of physics under Professor Reesink, and become lecturer in 196101967. In 1968, he received East-West Center Scholarship in the University of Hawaii and received his Ph.D in 1974. Doctorate in Agricultural Economics did not make him happy, and immediately after graduation he started to continue the study on physics, especially the theory of relativity, the masterpiece of his guru, Albert Einstein. He kept on telling himself that economics was pseudo science and took the responsibility in his hand to promote it into science, at the same level with physics. No one appreciated his choice from the very beginning, but Banten religious spirit seemed to govern his subconscious self-awareness all the time. He passed away January 13, 2009.
