Valerie Estoye was born Valerie Jeanne Metcalf in Asheville, North Carolina. She was what is affectionately referred to as a “military brat,” her father, and later her husband served in the Air Force. At six weeks of age, she headed to Texas with her mother, and has been traveling since—to places such as North Dakota, Mississippi, Guam, Germany, and California, before settling in Illinois.

Valerie attended the University of North Carolina-Asheville where she studied humanities, philosophy and psychology. She received an Associate in Arts at City Colleges of Chicago-Europe, and an Honors Certificate in Computers from Heald Business College in San Francisco.
