Mient Jan Faber, born in the Netherlands under German occupation, is a well-known peace activist. He was an assistant professor in the Department of Mathematics at the Free University in Amsterdam from 1968 to 1974, and from 1974 to 2003 was secretary-general of the Interchurch Peace Council in the Netherlands. When the churches launched a public campaign against his views on Iraq and military intervention, he was dismissed from his post and left the institute. He is currently a professor on the faculty of political and social science at the Free University in Amsterdam.
