Regi Claire is a short story writer and novelist – and now poet – born and brought up in Switzerland. She is a graduate of Zurich University and a former PhD student and research assistant in the English Department. She lives in Edinburgh with her Scottish husband and their golden retriever. Her mother tongue is Swiss German.
She is the author of two novels – The Waiting, The Beauty Room – and two story collections – Fighting It, Inside~Outside.
She has received a UBS Cultural Foundation award, has been twice shortlisted for a Saltire Book of the Year award and longlisted for MIND Book of the Year and the Edge Hill Prize.
Her first poem won 1st prize in the Mslexia/Poetry Book Society Women’s Poetry Competition 2019.
Her first published short story won 1st prize in the Edinburgh Review 10th Anniversary Short Story Competition, and a recent story was shortlisted for an international prize in Greece in 2019.
Her work has appeared in Ambit, Best British Short Stories, For Books’ Sake, Litro Magazine, Litro Online, Unthology and many other publications in the UK, Europe, Australia and the USA.
Regi has served as literature specialist for Creative Scotland and as a writing competition judge for Scottish Association of Writers and the National Galleries of Scotland.
She is a former Royal Literary Fund Fellow and a former RLF Lector for Reading Round Scotland – 'the best job I've ever had'.
She teaches a creative writing class at Edinburgh City Art Centre and two critical reading groups , one of them at Centre for Open Learning at Edinburgh University.
