Sam voraciously consumed books from a young age due to a food shortage in the small village in West Sussex where she grew up. This diet, although not recommended by doctors, has given her a lifelong passion for books. Sam was a bookseller, editor and educational publisher before she started to write children’s books. She also taught art and design for a while, and as a keen artist she has been known to dabble in a bit of illustration, too.

After a lot of moving around the country, Sam now lives in sunny Worthing on the south coast of England, where she grew up. She has a young son called Owen and an old yellow camper van called Daphne, and in summer they love pootling off on road trips to the New Forest and further afield. She goes rock climbing and plays guitar although not usually at the same time – and can often be found dangling off a cliff in or sitting at a campfire with her guitar singing silly songs about cockatoos!
