John Webb , divine and antiquary, the eldest son of William Webb, of Castle Street, London.

In 1800 he was ordained to the curacy of Ravenstone in the diocese of Lichfield and Coventry, and in the course of a ministry of about sixty years. Besides several papers contributed to 'Archaeolgia', Webb was the author of: 'Some Account of the Monument and Character of T. Westfaling', 1818, 'An Essay on the Abbey of Gloucester', written for Britton's 'History and Antiquities of Gloucester Cathedral', privately printed in 1829, 'A Translation of the Charter of Gloucester', privately printed in 1834, and 'The Household Roll of Bishop Swynfield', edited for the Camden Society, 1854.

He left unfinished an edition for the Camden Society of the manuscript 'Military Memoirs of Colonel John Birch', which was published in 1873, and 'Memorials of the Civil War as it affected Herefordshire', which was published in 1879 by his son Thomas William Webb.
