Mordechai Geldman was born in Germany in 1946 but has lived in Tel Aviv since the age of three. He began publishing poetry in 1966. He has a BA in general literature and an MA in clinical psychology; he works as a psychotherapist. He is also an artist and photographer, as well as a curator of Israeli art. Geldman is the author of several volumes of poetry as well as of psychoanalytic literary theory; he also writes articles and art criticism for the Israeli press. The recipient of the Chomsky Award, the Brenner Award, the Amichai Award, and the Prime Minister Award, his work has been translated and published in English, Arabic, Czech, French, Greek, German, Italian, Polish, Romanian, Serbo-Croatian, Spanish, Portuguese and Vietnamese. In 2010 he received the prestigious Bialik Prize, and his two-volume Collected Poems: Years I Walked at Your Side appeared in 2010-2011.
