John Maxwell Brownjohn was one of Britain's leading translators of German literature and has won acclaim on both sides of the Atlantic for translations of titles including My Wounded Heart: The Life of Lilli Jahn, 1900-1944 by Martin Doerry. Among his most recent awards are the Schlegel-Tieck Prize for his translation of Thomas Brussig's Heroes Like Us and the Helen and Kurt Wolff Prize for his translation of Marcel Beyer's The Karnau Tapes.
