I am currently known as John Seven.

I am the arts and entertainment editor at the North Adams Transcript, a daily newspaper in Western Massachusetts, where — for the last seven years — I have attempted to inject as much serious discussion of contemporary art as possible within that setting. I also have a passion for the graphic novel form and continue to promote that in my arts writing — in that vein, I am the comics reviewer for Worcester Magazine and a contributor to Publisher's Weekly Comics Week.

My children’s book “Happy, Sad, Silly, Mad” is due to be published by Andrews McMeel this fall. My first book, “For Go Mad in Massachusetts,” in collaboration with my wife artist Jana Christy, was released in 2003.

I was born in Savannah, GA, and have lived all over the country, thanks to a life as a military brat. After high school in Savannah and film studies at New York University, I entered the world of comic books, writing the popular series “Very Vicky” and contributing stories to a number of anthologies. In the 1990s, I shifted to a freelance writing career with a focus on the arts but including a topical span of science, medicine, travel, sports, food, and more.
