Himuro Saeko was a Japanese playwright, essayist and novelist. She was most active and popular in the 1980s-90s when she was one of the most popular authors under the banner of Shueisha's Cobalt Bunko print. Her novel I Can Hear the Sea was adapted into an internationally acclaimed Studio Ghibli film. That novel was also adapted into a TV Drama and an Anime. She has had other novels adapted into anime, manga, TV Dramas, films, picture books, and stage plays.
In 2008 she died of lung cancer.
