Ignas Kleden was born in Larantuka and finished his elementary school and undergraduate degree in Flores. He earned his master from Hochschule Fuer Philosophie, Munich, German in 1979 and doctor in sociology from University of Bielefeld, German in 1995. He teaches in University of Indonesia and STF Driyarkara Jakarta. He also has served as a permanent member of The International House of Japan since 1997. He has been appointed as Outside Examiner, Department of Political Science in Monash University, Australia since 1989.

Besides, he established Masyarakat untuk Studi Politik dan Ekonomi/The Community for Study Politic and Economy. Founder and director of Media Research Ignas Kleden & Associates/MRIKA, Jakarta . Chairman the The KAAD di Indonesia, January 2001. He is noted as creator and director of The Go-East Institute/Research Institute for East-Indonesian Affairs, Jakarta, March 2000 - October 2001. Member of Peace and Justice, Indonesian Bishops' Conference, 2000. Write several papers and articles for Kompas, The Jakarta Post and Journal of Financial Market.

He is a researcher and a fruitful writer both in Bahasa and English, including: Country Report: Trans-nationalization of Life-Style: Indonesian Experience, PRISMA , No. 34, December 1984. Country Report: Social Sciences in Indonesia: State of The Art, in NEW ASIAN VISION, Country Report: Tradition or Traditionalism? PRISMA , No. 8, August 1986. Regional Report: South-East Asia: Cultural Adaptation or Cultural Doubt?, in NEW ASIAN VISION, Vol. 4., No.2, 1987. He was selected as national researcher in University of United Nations in joint-research program for 6 Asian Countries in the field of state, politic, economy, social change and culture and religious issues .

He speaks 3 foreign languages: English, Germany and Latin enable him to be a resource person in social and political issues both in national and international forum since 1984. In free time, he spends his valuable time with his wife and one son to play classical music, read novel and comparative religion and culture.
