Free Children's Books and Young Adult Books for Kindle: Linked List of Over 1,000 Free Classics For Boys, Girls and Teens

All links checked and working on July 18th, 2013, if you have problems with an older version contact customer service.  The links in the new update do not offer immediate download on  PaperWhite - those users can still open the list to find free books for kids but must search the Kindle store and download them normally. iPad users must use the Cloud Reader from "Manage Your Kindle" to use the download links, see "From The Author" below. Amazon Prime members are welcome to use their free monthly borrow to get this list and download hundreds of the free children's books for future reading.

I read hundreds of the books from this linked list as a kid, both from my father's old collection and from second-hand bookstores. I tried to include all of the classics for kids that are available for free through Amazon, and also concentrated on the series type books I remember so well. Approximately a quarter of the 1000+ listed books are part of series, and these I list by series as well as by author.

This list of free classic children's and young adult eBooks works best on Kindle WiFi devices and Fire. The newest 3G and 4G Kindle and Touch readers will only allow you to use the clickable links for free Amazon eBooks when you are using them on a WiFi network. Clicking the linked titles will bring you directly to the product page for the free eBook in the Kindle store, where you can sign into your Amazon account and download the eBook immediately.

If you are reading on an older Kindle 2 or Kindle 1, you can add the book to your Wish List and the next time you use a computer to access Amazon, you can have the Wish List items sent to your Kindle for free. PaperWhite and iPad users can only use the list to find what free classics are available for download, but will have to search for them in the Kindle store as they normally do to find eBooks.

Many of the book series in this list were composed by various authors under a single pseudonym, such as Victor Appleton for the Tom Swift series. I use the pen names in favor of real names since that's the only way most of us recognize these books.

Amazon recently pulled some popular titles for bad formatting, including: "Anne of Green Gables", "Kim" and "The Count of Monte Cristo." So before you complain to Amazon about the formatting of a free eBook, keep in mind that sometimes, poor formatting is better than nothing.
