Journey Home: The Humanitarian Challenge in Kosovo

Journey Home: The Humanitarian Challenge in Kosovo

Helene Canz
3.5/5 ( ratings)
Through photographs, this book visually documents the consequences of one of the most traumatic events that has occurred in Europe at the end of the twentieth century - the war in Kosovo. Many different types of violence occurred, particularly to the Albanians, a population that had suffered for many years under a repressive system. The images show a cycle of refugee experience: from expulsion and flight, to life outside of Kosovo in camps or with host families, and the return home. They also show the domino-like effect of violence, as other ethnic groups fled in anticipation of or in response to revenge attacks, or were confined in enclaves. The cycle closes by depicting some individuals or groups who are working to create a future where ethnic diversity is respected. It is hoped that these photographs will serve as a reminder not only of the tragic events that took place in Kosovo, but also of the dignity and the essential humanity of the refugee.
