This is an excellent anthology, smart, perceptive, and incredibly insightful about the writing life. Highly recommended!
I thought this book would inspire me, but I can't connect with these authors at all. With the exception of Rick Moody (who comes across as a self-important dick in his segment) most of the authors here sound as though they hate writing. A frequent theme throughout this book is self-doubt and loathing. Well I don't hate myself and writing is a joyous activity. Even when I struggle for the right phrase or the perfect word, I'm in a happy place.This book is not a guide to a happy place.
