Sceneshifter: One of the British Railway Guns (Harry Vickers Book 1)

Sceneshifter: One of the British Railway Guns (Harry Vickers Book 1)

R.H Allder
0/5 ( ratings)
‘Sceneshifter’ was one of three fourteen inch battleship guns mounted on enormous railway bogies during the First World War. In 1940 Churchill, scraping the barrel for arms, remembered his ‘Railway guns’ and issued orders to find them. Sceneshifter’s bogie was found but without a barrel, and it was decided to fit it with a thirteen point five inch barrel as fourteen inch barrels were in great demand by the Royal Navy. The Chiefs of Staff were not impressed, and informed Churchill that the old guns were of no use, but then proceeded to carry out a plan to use one of them. However, the fear was that if Germany invaded they would first parachute an elite force in to capture strong points. The gun site would have been deemed ideal as by proceeding up the main railway line they could have shelled targets all the way to London and beyond. Precautions were taken to avoid such a situation arising.

In 1994, Harry Vickers, a 45 year old ordinary type of man, a brown hair blue eyed non-smoker, who likes a pint or two of bitter acquires an old wartime railway tunnel near Dover with the intention of setting up a mushroom farm. Closer inspection of the tunnel reveals more than Harry bargained for and he soon finds he is not the only party interested in the tunnel contents…..

There are several more of Harry's adventures to follow in this series.
