Book 2 of The Life and Times of Sam Tomlin. Born July the 4th in 1929, the oldest boy of six kids, Sam tells his early life story growing up on a farm in West Tennessee during the great depression with his family. He was poor, but as a child, he knew nothing else. Along with his best friend, a stubborn kicking mule, Sam becomes the terror of the community. Book 2 includes more adventures of Sam plus some of his father's when he was a young boy too. Funny, sad, exciting, what a life! It's not all fun and games though because he and his two older sisters must work the farm as their father does other things to make money; trying to save the farm. The country is still in a depression and the prices for cotton are down, making farm life difficult. Decisions must be made that, at times, bring the family to the brink of despair. Somehow, Sam and his family stick together through it all. In addition to this, Sam also explores his early experiences of town folk prejudice against others and how he comes to grip with that reality. Come explore the life of a poor country boy and his family.
