The Christmas Star: An Amish Country Romance

The Christmas Star: An Amish Country Romance

Ram Charan
4.6/5 ( ratings)
The Christmas Holiday flew by. Tom spent his time between his small farm and the Yochheims’, working the stock and learning the ropes of being a real farmer, not just a week-ender. He learned tons from Eric, but probably the hardest work yet fun activity he enjoyed was the barn-raising at the Schmidts. A freak accident caused a lantern to burn down his barn and in the weather, the family needed shelter for their stock. Fortunately, surrounding farmers had taken in his stock until a barn could be raised. On January 2nd, the raising was done. This was a time-consuming project at the best of times, and in the cold weather, it was paramount that it be built in a day. Tom had heard of barn-raisings, but was now thrust into the deal with both feet. Just at sunrise, the men gathered. Soon, the flooring was laid, and the sides could be built. By noon-time, the sides were standing, and the rook was ready to be raised. It had gone so fast. Everyone knew their responsibilities. Tom just followed Eric around and copied what he did, working on the forms for the walls as others worked on the floor.
