Fortuitous Friendships: A short story of Ida

Fortuitous Friendships: A short story of Ida

Julia Snelgrove
5/5 ( ratings)
She’s 75, newly widowed and still an introvert.

Ida was never considered a social butterfly, so moving into a Senior Apartment Building after the death of her husband, felt like her first day of high school in a new town combined with visiting her grandparents at the nursing home in 1969.

Scared and alone she had to move on with what life remained, without her husband Jack.
He would have wanted her to get out there and grab life by the balls. But it felt more like grabbing life by the prunes.

The worst-case scenario she could hide in her apartment and pretend no one was home if someone knocked, gaining the reputation as the building leper. Or try to make a couple of friends. New friendships in her 70’s? What’s the point if it’s a temporary stay.
