Meditations on Mary

Meditations on Mary

Kathleen Norris
0/5 ( ratings)
This book collects masterpieces of western art depicting the Virgin Mary in all her aspects: at the Visitation, the Annunciation, the Nativity, and the Adoration of the Shepherds and the Magi. We see her with the infant Jesus, we see her enthroned and in holy conversation with the saints. And we see her in mourning at the Deposition and enthralled at the Assumption. Artists represented include: Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Titian, Botticelli, Fra Angelico, Giorgione, and many others. The life of Mary is told in the words of the King James Version of the Bible. The book is introduced with essays on Mary by Kathleen Norris excerpted from her books Amazing Grace and Cloister Walk. Historically, the arts have flourished under the patronage of the Church and over the centuries many masterpieces depicting the Blessed Virgin have been produced. Many of these works now hang in museum collections. This volume restores some of these to a meditative religious context.
