Katy Marshall returns to the United States from Ireland to settle Sam Kutsun’s estate after a Nevada court declares her his legal widow. She becomes overwhelmed by the hypocrisy she finds throughout the oil and gas industry that he was involved in. The practice of providing misleading information to justify the use of fracking methods for oil and gas production causes Katy to reconsider her role as an administrator. She hires Jeffrey Wingate, a professional oil and gas geologist who has been black-balled because of his opposition to fracking in unsafe areas, to help with the settlement of the estate. He soon makes her aware of the issues the oil and gas industry doesn’t want the public to know about. Katy is equally shocked when her best friend, Mary Jo, announces that she has determined that the real motive in the decades-old JonBenét Ramsey murder case in Boulder, Colorado, has never been discovered. She believes a change in the focus of the investigation will exonerate the Ramsey family from any complicity. Struggling with the overwhelming task of settling Sam Kutsun’s estate, Katy gradually discovers that he was involved in far more than just oil and gas, and learns that a Columbian drug cartel has spread its deadly tentacles into the Denver area, giving her good reason to fear for her life. Katy finds she must summon all her strength and courage to survive and navigate her way through an environment of love, greed, sin, lust and murder that knows no bounds.
