Reading Mastery - Level 2 Storybook 1 (Reading Mastery: Rainbow Edition)

Reading Mastery - Level 2 Storybook 1 (Reading Mastery: Rainbow Edition)

Siegfried Engelmann
3.3/5 ( ratings)
Reading Mastery Rainbow involves a three-step process that ensures that students make smooth transitions from decoding to comprehension. The first step, decoding, is later combined with comprehension strategies, and in the final step students acquire an appreciation and understanding of literature. Strategies for basic reasoning skills such as drawing conclusions, applying rules, and completing deductions are stressed. The Fast Cycle strategies combines lessons from Reading Mastery I and II into one accelerated program that is appropriate for above-average beginners in Grades K or 1 or for children in Grades 2-3 who have poorly developed decoding skills. For example, Lesson 60 on page 153 shows what happens after a girl is ordered by her parents to get rid of her pet goat, who has been munching everything in its path. The goat becomes a hero in the home when a car robber comes to the home and the goat butts him into submission.
A girl got a pet goat. She liked to go running with her pet goat. She played with her goat in her house. She played with her goat in her yard. But the goat did some things that made the girl's dad mad. The goat ate things. He ate cans and he ate canes. He ate pans and he ate panes. He even ate capes and caps. One day her dad said, "that goat must go. He ate too many things." The girl said, "dad if you let the goat stay with us, I will see that he stops eating all those things."
