Yet another book to look at where we've come from and it captures well how much has been learned from various planning dpets across the country. This had detailed stories essentially of transforming downtown from business to shopping, and some of the history of downtowns. It had stories about pioneering places like Ghiradelli Square, Fanueil Hall and other specialty shopping that broke from the suburban mall mentality that developers had moved to. Currently re-reading this book and it's a great example of why applied case studies are still relevant a decade (okay, 2 decades) after they're done. It's good, good research.
