Recently I reviewed The NY Times 100 best novels for the 20th century and found I had only read a fifth of them. So I picked up this book that was listed as third best. It is an intellectual and religous philosophical awakening of a youn man who questions and rebels against the Catholic and Irish conventions of that day.
