(More pictures at parkablogs.com)This book is pretty cool. It mixes elements of street art, caricatures, music and city life. In The Beat of Urban Art, Justin Bua recollects how he grew up in New York on the Upper West Side, Manhattan and Brooklyn. He sketches the people he met and the streets he grew up on. The pages are filled with caricatures of people who grew up in this tough neighbourhood. Life was so rough on the streets he sometimes had to act insane just to avoid getting mugged, and
A great edition- I love the way each page is composed, the colors and layout, the story behind each artwork and overall the whole journey Justin is taking us on with his book.
The author has developed the art of story telling through the combination of visual and written means. It's a story book for adults that features the history of hip hop through an autobigraphical lens. The composition of words and images is intriguing and brings with it all the vibrancy of city life in a highly stylized and idiosyncratic language.Fun and beautiful book.
i got this book from the library- it's really cool. this guy grew up in NYC in the 70s and 80s and its about his experiences dealing with the craziness of the NYC... its kind of like a picture book for adults- his art is FANTASMO!
Very cool book on street/urban/hip-hop artist, Justin Bua, whose style is something of a mash-up of surrealism and hip-hop. Great illustrations and details on his experience growing up inner city, drawing life and people as he knew them.
This isn't necessarily a book to read but rather a book to thumb through while eating cereal. It inspires me in the morning. Bua's style is gorgeous and the book shows his thumbnails, his drafts and compositional plans to his more well-known work. I heart Bua!
I love his particular brand of urban art. I had been waiting for years to get my hand on a copy of his book. I was delighted when I was actually able to flip through the book.
Love Bua's work!
