Excellent philosophical history of the question concerning the main constituent of human intellect and cognition: a priori reason or a posteriori experience?
This is a great book. Comprehending it required multiple readings over several years but (I think) I finally have a grip on what he's saying, and that's pleasurable because Hampshire's ideas are fun to ponder.
