What are affirmations?

When I share the concept of utilizing affirmations with my clients, I emphasize the power of consciously choosing words that will either help eliminate or help create something new in their life. Every thought you think and every word you speak is an affirmation. All of our self-talk and our internal dialogue is a stream of affirmations.

How do affirmations work?

Through repetition of positive thoughts, affirmations have the ability to program your mind into believing them. This is because the mind does not know the difference between what is real or fantasy. When you watch a movie and you start to laugh or cry, your mind is empathizing with the characters on the screen even though it is only Hollywood magic. There are both positive and negative types of affirmations. I am sure many of us can remember as a child being told by a teacher, parent or coach that we did not have the ability to do something, or we were fat, clumsy, etc. These unwholesome statements can stay with us in the conscious or unconscious mind, which we then reinforce throughout our lives. Likewise, positive thoughts and positive statements can be reinforcing and can become a catalyst for positive change.

Why does the "Until I Change" approach differ from other approaches?

In "Until I Change", I use "self-affirmations" and "self-scripts" that can condition the subconscious mind to help you develop a more positive perception of yourself. The affirmations in this book, along with an honest focus on your true "core" can help you to change harmful behaviors, undo the damage caused by negative scripts and move you forward to a positive self-perception.

Affirmations are easy to create and use, but what you will find in this book is a custom developed, results-tested and uniquely illustrated set of affirmations that I have used for over two decades in my coaching practice. This book, combined with proper coaching and a personal support system, can help you find the dedication and strength you need to master desired change in many aspects of your life.
