Terror walked out of Lidice on invisible feet, and Heydrich, the Hangman died. From that day on fear stalked the Gestapo, and a phantom of vengeance became famed throughout Europe as "The Ghost that Haunted Hitler."

A wartime adventure novelette written during World War II by William P. McGivern. William P. McGivern is well known for his hard-boiled detective and police action pieces, such as Night of the Juggler and Odds Against Tomorrow. He also wrote television screenplays in his later years including scripts for the TV series “Ben Casey,” “Adam-12,” and “Kojak” and the William Castle film “I Saw What You Did” .

However, he also wrote many short fiction stories and novellas for the science fiction and adventure pulp magazines throughout the 1940s and 1950s. This novelette, “The Ghost That Haunted Hitler” was originally published in Fantastic Adventures magazine in December 1942 with the cover illustration painted by Harold W. McCauley.
