The book Envueltos de plantain, cassava and corn in the traditional kitchens of Colombia from the new publishing house Hambre de Cultura, has just won the prize for the best recipe book during the World Cuisine Week, held in Paris. “It is a book very different from the others, due to its subject, the authors, the exceptional photography, the historical investigation. It is a book with a lot of heart”, commented Edouard Cointreau, president of the awards, to Daniel Guerrero, from Hambre de Cultura. This special mention is added to his nominations at the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards for best book on indigenous tradition, culinary history, first book from a publisher, photography and design. The women behind the Colombian involvement María del Tránsito Rodríguez, better known as 'Tatico', is an 83-year-old from Santander who married Víctor Manuel Agamez, a native of Achí, a municipality in Bolívar that borders Sucre. That was how this woman integrated the two kitchens into her pots. “My mother used to prepare changua, corn arepas ‘pelao’ and other Santander recipes; With her mother-in-law, she learned how to make buns, fried foods, sweets, and other Caribbean cuisine preparations. She integrated my father's food, he integrated hers, and we grew up between the two cultures," recalls Zoraida 'Chori' Agamez, 63.
