Oil is a 20th Century historical classic novel by American author and Pulitzer Prize winner Upton Sinclair. It was first published in the United States in 1927, and was a controversially banned in parts of America, which helped make it a best-selling classic book.

This is the Nobel Prize-winning American author Upton Sinclair’s book, the unabridged original banned and uncensored edition published in 1927 of Oil, an unmissable American literary classic. Oil, the American classic novel in full was originally banned in Boston. However, the publisher printed a famous "fig-leaf edition" with the censored nine pages blacked out.

It is full of social and political satire. A book of drama for adults that could have just as easily been written today given the themes of greed, politics and hypocrisy. Set in California the book was written during the Harding administration's teapot dome scandal.
