Darkness Falls: A Collection of Poetry

Darkness Falls: A Collection of Poetry

David Wicks
4.5/5 ( ratings)
Sometimes we have to go through hell and back to find out who we really are. The person we thought we were ends up being a figment of our imagination.

Depression can be ugly and sometimes she is not so kind. When she pushes you down into the darkest depths of the well, you feel as if there is never going to be a way for you to climb out.

You see the light. Reaching for it does no good. But, you keep pushing. Screaming. Crying. Hoping someone will hear your call.

Someone does. But you have to let them in.

Poetry seems to be part of the story. Memoir seems to make up the remainder.

I have been writing poetry for as long as I can remember. My journals are packed with words that may only make sense to me. A few have been published, both offline and off.

This particular collection of darkness follows me around to the darkest depths of depression. Anxiety. Panic Attacks. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Nightmare. Death. Destruction. All due to being a survivor of my past.

During that time I lost both of my grandparents to cancer . My best friend lost her battle with cancer a few shorts months after my grandmother.

In the middle of all of that was the best friend who was accidentally murdered by another friend . One was buried, one was sent away to prison. Both fighting for me.

And still, another person, very close to my heart, was brutally murdered on a trip to see me. As if that was not enough to push a person down, I went through a divorce, fell in and out of love and moved 1000 miles away from the only life I had every really known.

These words are dreary. They are some of my darkest. They are raw and they are real. Not all of the rhyme or even follow poetic standards, but they are all mine.

I like to call it A Poetic Memoir.

It may not even be very good. But I want people to know that no matter how dark your world has become, there is help and there will be a light at the end of the tunnel. You just have to want it and reach for it.
