A novel by Welles, never printed in English, its only appearance is in this edition in French. David Thompson's Rosebud: The Story of Orson Welles states was doing new script ideas for Alexander Korda, and one of those turned into a French novel, Une Grosse Legume, translated and adapted by Maurice Bessy. It is set on a Mediterranean island, the scene of a power struggle between Coca-Cola and Pepsi Cola, and of the dance made by American and Communist influence. Yet again, Welles the political scientist goaded the satirical dramatist - and plainly this could have been a masterpiece.
