You would think that dying is the worst thing that could happen to anyone – but for Pilot, death is just the beginning of his problems. There's no oblivion to deliver him from his pain, no Heaven or Hell either. Instead, Pilot finds himself perched between those two extremes, in a place peopled by misfits from every Age on Earth, ancient to future. Some are full of rage. Some see the humor in their situation, and even find beauty and love there. And one Pale Lady manages to find hope.

Lady believes Pilot has arrived with one purpose: to deliver them to Heaven, on a perilous road guarded by Celestial Tigers. Her belief in him makes him want to risk everything to pursue that dream. Only one doubt nags him.

If it's possible to ascend the Celestial Road, is it equally possible to go in the opposite direction? Will his inner compass lead them out – or into deeper darkness?
