The Summoned: Tales of the Phantom Court

The Summoned: Tales of the Phantom Court

Gerilyn Marin
3.8/5 ( ratings)
As it turns out, when one dies and is resurrected, being brought back is the easy part . . . it’s getting the hang of your new-and-yet-not life that’s hard. This is a lesson that Brianna learns first hand after Kai-Yun- a ridiculously good-looking Demon, of all things- drags her back into the world of the living after unusual circumstances cut her young life short.

Outgrowing a painful childhood with her sense of humor and wonder at life intact has caused her to act as though she has an answer for everything- even if that answer is only an exasperated "pfft". Such thinking doesn’t bode well for being thrust into an existence that constantly reminds her of how little she- or any human- really understands the world. Her unorthodox thought process does handle her life being turned sideways surprisingly well, however, when she learns just how many in her life are, or will, be affected by the Supernatural.

A few things become apparent rather quickly after her introduction to this new facet of her life. One, she has an inherent- and bothersome- Sensitivity to magickal energies. Two, learning to think on one’s feet is a must for members of the Court. Three, nothing can ever be taken at face value. Acceptance of that last one can be tricky- especially when it means accepting that the one you trust most is hiding a secret he’d shed blood to keep you from knowing . . . and that secret is about you.
