A Clash of Steel

A Clash of Steel

Robert Feather
0/5 ( ratings)
In January 2003 the author was given unprecedented access to examine the Spear of Longinus, part of the Hapsburg treasures kept in the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna. It is believed to be part of the original Spear that pierced the side of Christ as he hung on the cross. The Spear is known to have been prized by numerous famous historical figures including Constantine the Great, Charlemagne, Charles Martel, Barbarossa, Napoleon, and Hitler. We meet all these personalities through the pages of the book, including General Patton who was the last person to own it before it was returned to Vienna.

Whilst examining the Spear in Vienna, something quite extraordinary was discovered within the structure of the Spear, relating to Christ, which has never before been revealed to the public. The fictionalised story is based on fact, until the Spear is stolen by a terrorist force and a race to recover it ensues which has implications that are highly relevant to events of today – including the real reasons why allied forces went into Afghanistan and Iraq.

Knowing that Hitler had coveted and finally acquired the Spear at the beginning of World War II, Jonathan Steel enlists the help of an ex-CIA agent and some of his film crew and they travel to Germany. There they encounter a violent Nazi group who they believe wanted the Spear for devious reasons.

The trail takes them across continents, eventually ending up in the Middle East as a mysterious organisation with the initials NK, entangled with Christian, Jewish, and Islamic interests, is unmasked in a final cataclysmic debacle. Throughout the story we learn about the Spear's encounters with the Sabre of Caliph Uthman. This is the sword said to have been wielded by the Prophet Muhammad.

The implications of the story impinge on current political and religious conflicts, played out against a background of advanced nano-technology and a love affair that runs through the 500 page novel.
