Kimberly Lyons, a poetry student at Oxford, returns to Arizona to help with the family business after drug dealers kill her father. She witnesses a shooting by Loco Ortega, hired killer, so she is sent to Denver on a witness protection program, where she falls in love with horror writer Robert Blake. Fearing for her safety, Kimberly flees to Mexico, where drug lord, General Hernandez, kidnaps her to teach English to his soon-to-be-sold girls. He is attracted to her, but she outwits him and tries to help the girls escape, only to be thrown into a dark basement. Here her poetry gains a profound depth, and she develops an inner strength unknown before. Robert unites with Kimberlyas mother and the parents of the missing girls, and when rival drug dealers bomb the mansion, they are saved.
