Frank Lloyd Wright: The Complete 1925 "Wendingen" Series (Dover Books on Architecture)

Frank Lloyd Wright: The Complete 1925 "Wendingen" Series (Dover Books on Architecture)

FROM THE INTRODUCTION BY MRS. FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT:

It is profoundly gratifying to have this magnificent book, which has become practically impossible to find, at last made available again, done just as Mr. Wright wanted. It has…been universally recognized as one of the most important publication in the world of architecture. Mr. Wright admired its proportions and layout, and enjoyed turning the pages over, studying his buildings, reading the text; and he took great pleasure in the reproduction of his drawings and the splendid photographs. He would put it away for a time and a few days later pick it up again, always enjoying its beauty and often saying: “What a wonderful work this is.” To him this was the book on architecture that would be good a hundred years from now……….

The now priceless original edition, which was printed on only one side of each sheet and therefore bound in double-page folds, has been out of print for many years and virtually unobtainable. Like the original, this Horizon Press facsimile edition of 1965 is similarly printed and bound, indeed faithful in every respect to the original.

Besides the 200 illustrations and the historic writings of Frank Lloyd Wright himself, there are the several remarkable contributions by noted European architects clarifying the Wright influence; the essay by Louis Mumford on the Social Background of Frank Lloyd Wright; two historically invaluable essays of Louis Sullivan; and, in addition, the memoir by Mrs. Wright describing her husband’s reaction to this book and his building of the renowned Taliesin school.

The enormous influence of this epoch-making work is now part of the American architectural heritage which is truly indigenous and original and has shaped modern architecture throughout the world.
