I didn't read the first volume of Angel & Faith collection (#1 to 5#) or follow the comic book version of Buffy and Angel and so some of the things in this volume is a bit spoilerly to me especially when I found out that Giles is dead. Its quite unavoidable since I'm reading this volume that was highly related to Giles's story. But, I think its a good job by the writers to include Giles back into the storyline even when he's gone.In this book, Angel is investigating the rising cases of people ge...
Another good volume of Angel & Faith. Both the main story (with the Rebekah Isaacs art) and the standalone issue (with the Chris Samnee art) are good. I'm not a huge fan of Drusilla, but she's used well here. And the lorophage demon is pretty cool.Angel's attempt to put Giles back together again is starting to look a little like a typical fantasy quest, but that's OK. The series so far is more concerned with the emotional aspects and not the quest mechanics, so that's keeping it interesting.
Why can't Buffy be this good?! This is even better than the last few seasons of Buffy the show. Sure they're still doing the whole trying to resurrect Giles thing which I'm super against, but there is so many interesting things happening. 1. Drusilla shows up. 2. We get to deal with a demon who feeds on people's pain and it brings up the idea of whether or not emotional pain shapes a person or if it ruins them and makes it so they can't cope in the world. 3. We get some backstory with Faith and
This was definitely a fun read, and it's interesting to see how Angel's and Faith's friendship evolves over time. Initially, Faith came on board to help Angel, but he ends up helping her as well. There are times when I'd like to see Faith stand her ground more with Angel, but nonetheless, she proves to be a steady and level-headed force in his life. I love how Faith realizes that even though she has unresolved issues with her father, she now has a choice in how she writes her own life story. Spo...
This felt slightly off, but rounding up because I'm still enjoying it. (Would have loved to see it as an episode of TV.)[3.5 stars]
So glad I finally got a chance to read this one. Some epic library snafus had me ready to give up on it, but it was worth the wait. This one ties back well to the original Buffy tv series. I really enjoyed it.
A little too slick, a little too perfect. The storyline develops in exactly the way that it should but there's very little sense of risk taking or inspiration here. Drusilla comes back and there's a nice twist on her reappearance. Faith gets all emotional and nearly does a stupid thing. You can see it all coming and it's guaranteed that you'll enjoy it, but will it feel memorable? Probably not.4 stars the single issue (#10) episode featuring new characters and the best laugh out loud gag in some...
Getting good. Want to keep going with this one a see what Willow's doing in London...
Angel and Faith may not sell as well as Buffy Season 9, but between the two titles, this is the one I enjoy more. Part of the reason is the art. Rebekah Isaacs captures the likenesses of the characters, and she also is able to create imaginative new monsters for the series. The writing is also enjoyable, and Gage seems to have a handle on these characters. He understands the relationship between the two, and he is able to make the characters' search for redemption intriguing and not mopey. For f...
Love to see more Giles, also the trauma demon was cool. Could do without Angel's magic nipple piercing tho.
I forgot how much I love Faith and Angel dynamics. I wish I could find next volumes :/
Drusilla is back, Angel is trying to bring Giles back to life, Faith's past is coming back when she's not expecting it to and we get young Giles' flashback. Honestly, these comics are so good I wish we could have them as a tv show.
Both Angel and Faith’s past catch up with them. For the first time, we meet Faith’s absentee-father, Pat. He claims to have turned over a new leaf and just wants to build a relationship with his daughter. Unfortunately, he can’t escape his past either and his real intention for reconnecting with Faith is revealed. For Angel, his past sins hit centre stage as Drusilla makes a reappearance! But something about her is different… she is (view spoiler)[sane! (hide spoiler)] The underlying(?) message
I admit that I was dubious about the very idea of Angel & Faith as a series. But I liked the first volume, and with volume two, Gage has completely won me over. This is some of the best comics work I've read in the Buffyverse. Angel and Faith are themselves, the characters I know. Faith has all the issues you could ask for, but she's determined not to wallow in them. And Angel has that combination of wallowing in his guilt while turning it outwards as a weapon that can make him so compelling, in...
Review originally posted Dee's ReadsI had this on my wishlist forever. I was receiving the issues as they were coming out in 2012 and this is when I stopped doing that actually. Not because of this, but because of Buffy. Also, I much prefer collecting the volumes of graphic novels over a thousand issues which don't store well, and are a pain in the ass to read and maintain in order. I am glad I made that decision, I just regret taking so long to get back to this series as it really is better tha...
The Good: I enjoy Faith a lot more in this comic series than I ever did on Buffy. Here, we see her deal with her father. I'd imagined a man quite a bit worse based on Faith's multitude of issues, but he works with story line well. Angel and Faith work surprisingly well together, making the series continue to be a pleasurable read. The Bad: I never liked Drusilla. Still don't, actually. She comes back in this volume and messes with her vampire daddy - Angel. We get a bit more backstory on his turn...
Angel is continuing his quest to resurrect Giles, but something is in town, something that's driving people insane. Is it any surprise that Drusilla's at the heart of it? But the promise that the demon she's using can remove trauma--and insanity is a rare side effect--proves to be too much for Faith, especially after her father shows up on her doorstep.Permit me to geek out for a second:DRUSILLA!!!!!Okay, I'm done.I'm loving the Angel/Faith storyline so far. Neither of them takes any sh*t from t...
I've slogged through a lot of mediocrity and inconsistent "Buffyverse" comics and was finally reward for my efforts. This is everything I want from a story- Character driven narratives that are rooted in the history of favorite characters while still finding a way to challenge them to grow and explore relatable issues (in this case trauma and family legacies) with supernatural twists. I can't say enough good things about Angel & Faith.
I’m seriously loving Angel & Faith. I’m loving the addition of so many characters (new and old), the storyline’s, and the themes. The comic plots run so smoothly and tie up nicely. I loved the conversation surrounding trauma that we got in this volume. As well as the aunties! And of course, further development of the Giles plot, and character development for Faith.
