Such an improvement from the last volume! I was really disappointed with the first issue of this series. I decided to keep reading it simply because I saw it had potential. This volume proves that it had more in it. Both the story and the characters had a drastic quality jump. I had just read JL Dark volume 1 so this took off right where that ended. The crossover worked really well and added a spark to the story, which was lacking something before. I didn't realise there was a Stormwatch crossov...

This volume includes a couple issues of Justice League Dark. On the one hand it is good as the story would be incomplete without them, but on the other people unfamiliar with that comic will be wondering who these characters are and what they are doing in I, Vampire. I was a bit disappointed by volume 2 of "I,Vampire". The first volume was very atmospheric and dark, the writing was beautiful and the story compelling. In the second volume, all we see for the most part is a parade of various DC superheroes and very few of the elements which made me love the first installment of the story. I felt cheated, as a reader, for having spent money in something that did not begin as a superhero comic but ended up being all about superheroes.

This picks up after volume 1 and crosses over with Justice League Dark.I liked it. Constantine and Deadman go after Andrew in some sort of afterlife, but he's unwilling to leave at first. I can see why this book was cancelled. I mean it's neat, but there's not much really going for it except the two significant twists at the end of each book. Interestingly, this also includes two issues of Justice League Dark which tie into the rise of the vampires arc. There's just nothing overwhelmingly good about this. How can a vampire insurrection get any worse? Add zombies to the equation. I like vampire fiction. Zombie fiction? Not so much. Well, it depends on how it's done. This, well it was creepy and exciting and freaky. Add in some fundamentalist vampire hunters, then it's a party. While I was initially skeptical of a vampire book as part of DC's New 52 initiative, the first volume of "I, Vampire" established a unique series that wasn't really anything that could be considered cashing in on the phenomenon. Other people have complained about the lack of character development and less subtlety of this volume. Since there are only 3 volumes, this makes sense as being the Act 2 of a story. It's action, it's cameos, it's not deep. Hopefully volume 3 will back up my assessment though. We'll see...

I, Vampire's second volume succumbs to trying to add established characters and in doing so, it subtracts from what made the first volume so good. While I agree that the worlds of Andrew Bennett and Justice League Dark are overlapping, its so early in the series to make The JLD team so integral. I thought the art was great and then the back half of the book involving some legendary antagonists were very good but the overall book suffered from having to rely on guest stars, which they didn't need...
