This was quite enjoyable. There is some really good artwork in this volume and some clever writing from Levitz. This story has me very intrigued in the back-plot of Earth 2, so I can't wait to crack into that. I loved the chemistry between Powergirl and Huntress; their banter is funny and they play off each other well with strong personalities. I also like that their origins in this reboot are similar to what they were in the late Bronze Age of comics. The battle with Hakkou felt a little stretch...
Bullet Review:I have really enjoyed some of the earlier Huntress books I've read, so I was excited to see that Huntress gets to pair up with Powergirl. But I haven't followed any of these big events/bit storylines. I don't exactly know what happened in the Earth 2/Darkseid line, so a key portion of this story was beyond me. I also didn't realize that Powergirl was Supergirl and Huntress was Robin - in this storyline, I think? How does this fit in with Birds of Prey, Vol. 1: Trouble in Mind?Oh wel...
Great opening contract - sets a tone of adventure that they can coast on while we get caught up.And cool to see these two with a strong bond of friendship - far better than the usual infighting bullshit that plagued so much of the New 52. In fact, this whole Earth 2 thing - while a bit hackneyed and throwback to the old stodgy DC mythology - actually gives these heroes good reason why they're behaving the way they do. They've got an uber-mission to get back to their home 'verse and they're incli...
This was pretty well done, I thought. For those that are unfamiliar with this particular corner of this particular incarnation of the DC universe, Power Girl is Superman’s cousin from a parallel-universe Krypton and Huntress is the daughter of a parallel-universe Bruce Wayne. "Earth 2" is the name of the parallel universe they are from, hence the subtitle is "Lost Daughters of Earth 2". Given that they are family to Superman and Batman, it should be no big surprise that this team-up feels a lot l...
It was a fun idea and I am definitely down with Helena Wayne as Robin/Huntress, but overall the execution left a lot to be desired.
I would give this 3.5 stars. It's not bad, but I think this series has real potential. This was interesting. I have mixed feelings about this title. I enjoyed some parts, and others sections where a bit tedious. Helena seems like a much more interesting character so far, being more of a hero than Power Girl. Who seems to be more of a flirty blonde than a crime fighter. In terms of story writing there were a few places that left me confused, having to go back and re read what I'd just read. The or...
A fun, action-packed "buddy-superhero" book with a lot of heart. I really enjoyed Worlds' Finest and its take on the origins of Power Girl and the Huntress. I know that Power Girl's new costume was a bit controversial, but I actually like her new outfit. The art is fantastic and the witty banter between the two characters was a lot of fun to read. It's cool and a refreshing change of pace to see two superheroines headlining their own book. I do wish that the story was a bit more self-contained.
In the New 52 universe, Huntress and Powergirl are from Earth 2. Huntress is Helena Wayne, daughter of Batman and Catwoman. But in that universe, Selena Kyle wasn’t a criminal. Powergirl is Kara, Superman’s cousin, and in Earth 1 she takes the identity of Karen Starr, a billionaire known for buying tech companies. The seed money came from Helena when she hacked this world’s Bruce Wayne’s companies’ accounts. Helena works in the shadows using several identities. On Earth 2, they were heroes, Robi...
In October 2011, DC released 52 different monthly comics under the banner The New 52.These titles are considered wave 1 releases. I've now read at least volume 1 of 48 out of those 52. 6 of those 52 titles didn't sell well and were canceled after issue #8. DC brought out 6 new titles to replace the 6 that got canceled so there would still be 52 titles in all. These 6 replacements were considered wave 2 releases. This book is the 4th of those 6 that I've read.Huntress and Power Girl are the 2 sta...
I had never heard of Huntress or Power Girl until I entered (and won) a Goodreads giveaway for this book. This initial volume introduces two heroes from an alternate Earth as they deal with their new situation and face a ridiculously large villain.Huntress was formerly Robin (daughter of Batman & Catwoman), and she has no problems falling back into the hero role under a new name. Power Girl was formerly Supergirl and desperately wants to go back to the "right" Earth. She will put on the hero cos...
Very well done return of Kara and Helena to the DCU. Power Girl's new costume takes some getting used to, but on the whole, it's a great book.
I picked this up without much context other than the cover was cool and I'm always end for books with awesome super heroine team ups. It took a while to figure out what was going on, but I'm intrigued enough to read the rest of the series.
I picked this up for no other reason than idle curiosity. Supergirl has always been a personal favourite of mine and I was surprised I'd never even looked at a Powergirl comic (Considering they are one and the same but from alternate realities) and so what better place to start than in the New 52 reboot?So... We begin the book learning about how Earth 2's Supergirl and Rubon were pulled out of their reality after a serious invasion from Darkseid and placed in to the Earth in which the rest of th...
No no no no! Now I really enjoyed Supergirl so I thought I'd try this one, it sounded like it would be good. Nope, I could not stand it at all.
A spin-off of Earth 2 about the descendants of Superman and Batman! Unfortunately, unlike Earth 2 vol. 1, this book focuses more on the action than the characters themselves. The updated costumes are nice, but the characterization and plot are both really thin. Not offensive in any way, but there are better books to spend your money and time on.
(B+) 78% | GoodNotes: Visually vintage, it's '80s era throwback fun, all fights and flashbacks, simply spun, just old-time danger, deftly done.
Disclaimer: I received this book as part of a goodreads first reads giveaway. The premise here is much more interesting than the story the volume chooses to be about. Huntress and Power Girl here are not from the main DC universe, and are instead the Earth 2 versions of Robin and Supergirl, who take on their current mantles when they are dropped into the main DC reality (Earth 1?). They, of course want to get back to their home reality. Sounds pretty great, right? Indeed it is, in the flashbacks....
It was okay. Not up to the par set by Amanda Conner in the previous Power Girl series. But I'm glad the origin stories for the girls are back to the Pre-Crisis roots. Hate PG's new costume.
Not bad. It's nice to read about two heroes that respect each other "professionally" and like each other personally. Seems a little thin on the ground right now, doesn't it? I would have had a better time if most of the book hadn't been taken over by Huntress and Power Girl fighting a radiation monster whose name I've already forgotten. Yawn.
So this answers the question of what happened to Supergirl and Robin in Earth 2, Vol. 1: The Gathering. After they got sucked into the light, they ended up on our earth. Two identity changes later...Huntress and Power Girl!So I thought their origin story would be pretty interesting.Ehhhh.It could have been worse, but there's not a lot here that kept me on the edge of my seat.Sorry, Mike, but Power Girl was not Boobtastic in this one, either.Huntress/Robin was more interesting, but other than her
