It's a funny series and this book was especially funny. The story was interesting as well.
Probably my favorite GN of the year...
I think this might be my favorite volume of Skullkickers yet. It goes into some backstory of one of the main characters, with some hilarious, self deprecating narration along with it. The art is gorgeous, and the character designs are just awesome. This book continues to impress, and I feel that it will just keep getting better and more insane.
This volume may just be funniest one yet. The captions that replace sound effects are more common and are hilarious. There is a monster at the end again, but it's defeated by wit instead of by 'deading'.Baldy and Shorty, and separately the Elf that has been their enemy so far, stow away on a ship and are soon found out by the all-female crew and put to work. Before long they are treated as equals right when a Thool escapes from the hold. It starts to control the minds of the crew, all except our...
This volume throws off any pretense of a story, instead going on a rambling pirate adventure with a 2-issue segue into the old west, competing narrators arguing over plot points, and a massive ship battle with multiple tentacled creatures that takes up pretty much an entire issue. It's goofy as all get-out, and the action is frantic (though well plotted and laid out) fun, but ultimately not a whole lot of plot. Granted, if you're reading Skullkickers for plot, you're kind of doing it wrong. Sill...
My Prediction came true. This book was better than the first two trades, but not as good as the book following it. It was fun to see the origin behind Baldy and his Golden gun. This book is always a lot of fun. I'm hoping that my library will carry every trade of this finite series.
Fantasy Factoids and talking swords are my new favorite things. I also want more sarcastic narration a in comics. Btw, the backstory for our lovely Orc mercenary is pretty fantastic!I continue to enjoy this series a lot more than I anticipated. I needed a good dose of laughter. On with #4!
Baldy's origin story...and a bunch of pirate stuff. There aren't quite as many explicit jokes in this one, but I'd have to disagree with those reviewers that seem to feel there's a lack of humor. There's no lack of humor, it's just not as explicit as it has been.
I got all three Skullkickers trades from Jim and Edwin at NYCC 2012, and this was probably my favorite -- lots of fun, smartly written, fluidly drawn -- just a great fun all around.
Just. Fun.
Pirates are fun. And you also get to find out where baldy got the gun. You know what I'm talking about if you've read any other Skullkickers. Enjoy it!
As always, the pencils and inks in this book are freakin' great. If there's ever a comic book adaptation of The Name of the Wind series, these three should do it.
The story arcs just keep getting better and the artwork is still as strong as ever.
This volume has less humor than previous two volumes. On the bright side, there is a background story of Baldy.
This book doing what it does best.. fantasy action comedy
Fun book. Lots of sea-faring action and a kraken.
I really enjoyed this volume. We get a bit of back story about one of the Skullkickers, an adventure on the high seas and some good laughs. The art is really strong on this book and the writing works well with it.
The humor changed in this one, as did the tone. Still a great piece of work, but they're obviously pantsing it in this series. (A new pair of "narrators" admits as much.)Nonetheless, I still really liked it. Quite a brain bending revelation halfway through.
Man I missed this series! It's so funny & snarky.
