It was supposed to be the best night of the year, especially when, at the last minute, Deirdre actually got asked to the prom by the very boy she'd had her eye on. But that morning a freight train derailed on the outskirts of town, spilling some kind of biogenetic experiment gone horribly awry into the town's drinking water, and turning people into walking dead--zombies in search of warm human flesh and blood. Deirdre and her date knew what was going on when they went to the prom, and they tried to warn everybody, but they were ridiculed and laughed at, until the National Guard began rounding up people and herding them into the high school gym, living or dead, and all hell started breaking loose. But Deirdre made a startling discovery about the zombies, and her younger sister had a wild idea about how to get rid of them, and while it may have seemed crazy to some, it made perfect sense to the head CEO of the corporation that had invented the chemical in the first place. And with Deirdre's new boyfriend's expertise and help, before the night was through, the teenagers just might have a fighting chance of winning the battle against the walking dead.
