I'm delighted with the Thuglit series, and what the editors have done consistently throughout is to present a varied, balanced lineup. Again (and this is the fourth in my reading order) I was consistently happy. If I had to point to any two, however, they would be "Just Like Maria" and "The Carriage Thieves." More good short crime stories.
Second volume of noir stories. I liked the one about the bus. Humorous, not as dark as the rest. But I enjoyed them all.
Thuggish!With a fulfilling biography of each author, you get a little information about their experiences in their everyday lives to help you get to know them.Of course the quickest way, and the most effective way to know who they are is from their writing.And I have definitely found a few favorites whose work l will be looking for, such as Justin Porter, whose story , Carriage Thieves, is a big hoot.All of the stories are very good and I just can’t wait to read the next in this series, so just
Fifty-fifty on this issue. Is it just coincidence that I liked the first three stories better than the last five? First three stories were really strong: livewire in medias res beginnings, concrete and interesting details, backstory layered through and linked with the present action, surprising and satisfying endings. That's the recipe right there.
Going through the anthology in order. Although some reviewers found #2 less intriguing tthan the initial entry, I liked it better. I love plup, but sometimes there is too much #2 is much more balanced. There wasn't one entry that I didn't like.
