This was an okay book. I thought I would have been better because she's been though a lot.
This book was very insperational not only did I learn more about Gabrielle Douglas it teaches us not to give up on our dreams
It was a good book, and I loved how it was very descriptive. It had many pictures and graphs that were helpful too. It gave you a lot of information about Gabby Douglas.
Before Simone Biles, and after Dominique Dawes there came two-time Olympic gold medalist, Gabrielle Douglas. Gabby is the first African American and first woman of color from any nation to win a gold medal in the individual gymnastics all-around competition. "Raising the Bar" is an inspirational read about this first US gymnast to take home a team and an individual gold medal in the same Olympics. This is my second time reading her book, which highlights the sacrifices Gabby's mother and family
About the Book:After competing in the 2012 London Olympics and winning two gold medals, Gabrielle Douglas's life changed forever ... but in many important ways, it stayed the same. Inside these pages, Gabrielle shares an inside look at her day-to-day world, from the things that are still important to her---time with her friends and family, her favorite comfort foods, and her training routine---as well as what's it's like to suddenly walk the red carpet and interviewed by various people. Along th...
This book was very good especially if you are framiliar with gymnastics. It tells Gabby's life story.
Both my girls are in non-competitive gymnastics. My grade schooler likes books about gymnastics and we found this one. It's not the chapter book she was looking for, but maybe reading this will encourage her to read Douglas' Grace, Gold & Glory. I really hope she'll read both. It's an amazing encouragement for a young girl to see another one who loves God and relies on His strength to let Him shine through her. Olympics-time is the one time I miss having cable tv. It would be so cool to see Gabb...
We loved this book. We were able to learn more about Gabby - what inspires her, how much she trains, what she wants to do in the future and where she has traveled. My girls (ages 13 & 14) know they can do anything not just because Gabby did but by the Word of God (which Gabby loves to share). Gabby is truly raising the bar!
Loved the scrapbook feel of this book as well as the different personal anecdotes that Gabby put in her book. Perfect for kids!
I loved this book. It's not long and it's not a chapter book, but it's really good. Especially if you are a big fan of her like I am.

I won this book from Goodreads and quite enjoyed it. This title is for younger readers (8 and up, per the publisher). It gives a brief biography of the Olympic champion, as well as relating how her values formed from the strength of her family and through their faith. Written in a style that will keep speak to a middle schooler or younger, and filled with gorgeous photos, this book by Gabby Douglas is first rate.
Cute book full of nice photos. The writing style is definitely for kids & there is a lot of repeat info. It is a nice read for any fan of Gabby's.
Read in 20 minutes. Lots of good photos and good for kids. Nothing we don't already know. References in the back to read her biography (which I already did). Cant wait to see if there is an update with the 2016 Olympics.
Decent read. I feel like it was geared at a younger reader and that young teens will enjoy this book a lot more than I did. It felt a little off... for some reason. Too bubbly and unrealistic for me.
I just had the privilege of reading through Raising the Bar with my grade-school aged granddaughter. We loved watching Gabby perform on TV so it was a real treat to read her chatty-style book where we got a sneak peek inside her life. The book is over-sized so the pictures are large and absolutely beautiful. The story starts at the beginning and introduces the reader to Gabby's family and how she began gymnastics at the age of six. It was inspiring to learn about the sacrifices that not only Gabb...
Enjoyed this look at the hard work, experiences, and values of Gabrielle Douglas in something of a snapshot format.
