It seems to me that I enjoy the issues where the story doesn't really move on the most. I just love the cubs, so every issue with them on it I take it with a smile plus *SPOILER ALERT*They finally notice Ghost existance!I hope in the books to come we can see them more grown up, as teenagers at least, since as adults will take too much time and let go most of the actual main characters.I really have a crush on Bigby (probably because he reminds me of Wolverine). This is my random review. I hope I
This deluxe oversized hardcover collects Fables #52 - #59 and issue #64, it's a mixed bag of stories with two arcs that deliver and some obvious throwaway stories. I'd give this 3.5 stars. We start with a four issue arc dedicated to the Adversary hosting a conference deciding the best way to annihilate Fabletown and our world along with it. There's various points and counterpoints to invasion made, and the writing plays the What If? game pretty well. We get a glimpse into how truly evil the Adve...

Not much to say about this one, except ...Santa is a fable and Bigby and his brothers start a wild rumpus 🤗The vast amount of works at Bill Willingham's fingertips is boundless. My inner child is beaming 😍
Excellent addition to a wonderful series.
3.5 stars. Not the best, but neither is this the worst. Just down the middle. Bigby and his family is my favorite. I'm anxiously waiting to see how the Adversary's retaliatory plan will be enacted. I still wish Pinocchio hadn't stayed by his side.
Doesn't do much to advance the series, but I enjoyed seeing Bigby and Snow White spending time with their kids. The question and answer issue was a really fun way to involve fans in the story though I didn't think much of some of the guest artists.
I hope this is the equivalent of The Two Towers. There's a great deal of buildup that doesn't really go anywhere, yet.
This volume catches up with smaller matters of fabletown and the Wolf family, leaving the main plot aside for a bit. That is, after it converses with a possible inter-world war scenario, a plan that gets shut down the moment it's thought of. Or is it? Anyway, it lays the ground for the next powerlful arc, "The Good Prince" and it drops a huge hint about the role of a secondary character who seems to develop to the most central one on the issues to come. ;) Love how Santa Claus was implemented on...
I think Fables is old enough (this collects issues 52-59 and 64 while there are over 130 fables issues out) for me to start calling it the best comic series ever written.Don't get me wrong, there are better comics out there, but none that stay so good and consistent for such a long period of time.
This turned out to be a re-read for me as I was trying to find where I’d left off some years ago, ass I attempt to finish the series. It was as much a treat as the first time. I love great art but I’m a script first reader and this is a script first book. Nothing against Mark Buckingham other artists who jump in from time to time. I enjoy his art and I particularly like the extra touches he adds to the pages that make make it feel like a medieval text or a really deluxe edition of fairy tales. T...
Binge-reading. Series review to follow.
Amazing! As usual!
A few glimpses into the over-all war with the adversaries, I did like the 'what-ifs' stories of the Mundy invasion of Fable. And the different artists take on the Fables.Still, way too much of a soap-operatic atmosphere to these stories, and a couple of "filler" type stories that just seemed to be there to "fill up space"... and yes I am being repetitive on purpose. For some reason or other, I canèt seem to get attached to any of these characters. Perhaps its because there are too many and they a...
Solid, but definitely not as strong as some of the previous volumes. I don't care about the cubs nearly as much as I'm supposed to.
This was one hell of a volume, especially that last issue. If it wasn't for the numerous different art styles, I'd have given it 5 stars, but lots of artists' input is really not my favourite thing these comics could achieve. Some illustrations were clumsy at best, and others couldn't even handle making the characters resemble Bill Willingham's versions. On the bright side, i liked the story, even if there wasn't too much action. You can never have enough of Hansel and Frau Totenkinder.
Christmas came, and with it the last 3 volumes of Fables I had yet to read. This opened with a four part story that speculated one way in which the impending war could go as both Fabletown and the Adversary make their war plans. The rest of the volume was made up of more random and shorter stories, which typically would aggravate me (it's like come on, stop delaying the inevitable), however on this occasion I let it slide. In fact it made me really happy because Snow and Bigby were the center of
This one is maybe a 4.5 for me. It’s a bit choppier, which is fine. I liked the backstory of the Fables that have been side characters, and I love to get glimpses of Ambrose, but I do love the series a little more when there is more of an increasing plot. Can’t wait to see what happens next. Love.
While the plot didn't move a whole lot forward, there were some tantalizing hints of what's to come. That said, I really enjoyed all the side stories, developing characters on a personal level. Bigby and Snow's kids are my favorite.
