The Village That Slept

The Village That Slept

Thelma Niklaus
4.5/5 ( ratings)
High on a desolate mountain in the Pyrenees, a boy and girl, survivors of an unknown accident, find themselves lost on a mountain without any memory of how they came to be there. They discover a tiny baby strapped in his carrying case and add him to their little group. But about themselves they can remember only that their names are Franz and Lydia.

When the children fail to find a path down the mountain, they realize they will have to take care of themselves and the baby until they are rescued. They find a village but it is deserted. Lydia finds a little house that is snug and homelike; Franz discovers an Alpine hut stocked with provisions, even a few books, and the children begin to settle in. By the time winter comes, they have made themselves secure against the weather and the loneliness.
