Pies and prejudice

Pies and prejudice

Martin Tarbuck
4.5/5 ( ratings)
'PIES & PREJUDICE' chronicles the latest instalment of Wigan Athletic's remarkable journey from the Non-Leagues to the Premier League. And who better to guide you through the triumph than two ofthe cheeriest cynics around? Aided by their cohorts from 'The Mudhutter' and 'Cockney Latic' team, Andrew Vaughan and Martin Tarbuck collectively report news, views, matches, thoughts and the mood of the fans during the course of an historic season where Wigan Athletic reached the top tier of domestic football for the first time in the club's history.
Pilloried by the media, ridiculed by TV pundits and laughed at by rival fans for a perceived lack of support, the tale incorporates stand-offs with the local police force, cat and mouse transfer dealings and a morbid fear of the play-offs.
The authors tell the story from a fan's point of view; describing what it means to follow a small club aiming for the big time culminating in one delirious Sunday where dreams eventually turn into reality.
Martin Tarbuck is the author of 'Let's Hang On', a diary of Wigan Athletic's Division Two Championship season of 2002/03 and has also been editor of 'Cockney l.atic' since 1999. Now fully domesticated in Standish, Martin was taken to his first Wigan Athletic game over twenty years ago by former player George Urquhart after jumping on the Freight Rover Trophy final bandwagon.
Andrew Vaughan is the founder and driving force behind 'Cockney l.atic', the original Wigan Athletic fanzine started in 1987 as a newsletter for London-based fans to keep in touch. He is also a part-time OJ and freelance writer who now resides in sunny Martland Mill after many years working in the capital. Vaughanie is coming up to his 38th year of watching Wigan Athletic although he still claims that he prefers to watch Rugby Union.
Relive the highs and lows of a Premier League promotion-winning season. This book is best enjoyed with a pie. And without prejudice.
