I see some of the ratings and read some of the reviews, and sometimes I wonder: is it that people do not really pay attention to what they are reading, or have I become a grumpy old man at 40? I got this comic very recently after finding out about it by chance. DC occult characters? Check. Chuck Dixon? Check. Eduardo Baretto? Check. nice Elseworlds mini. I enjoy these as I get to see so other possibilities of some of my favorite DC characters. Good art and story. Recommended

An Elseworlds where magic has overtaken science as the preeminent driving force for society. Features some obscure magical characters of the DC universe as they battle some elder gods who gifted magic to humans in the first place. The premise is actually very similar to what's going on now at DC post Dark Nights: Metal. Eduardo Barreto's art is exceptional.

Dixon was known for BATMAN and stretching a one-issue story into (at least) three issues, and Barreto was an exceptional storyteller but not flashy enough to get high-profile work, and there was no reason to think they could do a a series magic-based characters who weren't good enough for Vertigo. There was no reason anyone would think it would sell, even with guest-stars (though they could have only done better than the new Challengers of the Unknown, Deadman, and Blue Beetle (you really have t...

This is a strange Elseworld. The world relies on magic for everything so once it’s gone everyone freaks out and it’s up to the magic heroes to save the day. The best part was the Challengers of the Unknown.
