Documenting the insecurities and uncertainties of the flawed human anatomy in a self-deprecating manner is not particularly novel. Would have preferred it to be more visceral too.
Okay, I have to say, I had a looooot of expectations diving into this because of the blurb. And while there were individual poems that stayed with me. As a poetry collection on the whole, it didn't quite work for me. There were quite a few poems that I felt were a bit forced in terms of fitting with the theme. After a while this collection of poems felt repetitive and a little angsty.
Unflinching and honest. “Still I am green in yearning and in love. Still I grow moss from this waiting, my heart rooted in your palm, evergreen through the seasons” (28).
