Thoroughly enjoyed both the art and the story-telling. I'm impressed that the author/artist was able to cater to the audience that dictated actions in the story, as well as lead the story through a plot. My only complaint is that the book was printed a little too dark, making it difficult to see details in the images. Overall a pleasurable read.
Não curti muito essa narrativa em segunda pessoa, ainda mais com esse ar de cinema mudo, mas é uma HQ bem agradável de ler as cores e texturas são lindas e tem gatos! Trazer gatos é quase uma apelação.
One of those collaborative audience-participation tales, this one wasn't bad - a cute short thing that carried its way while it went - decently drawn and told, but it still was nothing remarkable either, and left no lasting memories or ideas. Kind of dull, to be honest.
The art is lovely and the concept was interesting to me, as the story is a collaboration between author and reader. I think I might have appreciated it more if I had read it in its original webcomic form.

A Stray in the Woods emerged as a collaborative art project on Tumblr in 2012 and 2013, where the artist drew pictures of a cat and asked for suggestions about what the cat should do next. She selected one suggestion from a reader each day from the increasingly many ideas she received, and the story began to grow. The main attraction to this project for me is sort of a pedagogical one, since I'm a teacher and have taught collaborative writing and engage students in group projects. I like how she...
This was beautiful.
You are a cat. You don't know your name, or where you are, or how you got there. Thus begins the tale of the amnesiac cat. Rest assured, it's not a feline Bourne Identity -- though I suddenly like the idea of Matt Damon in his most challenging and furriest role ever. Originally posted on Tumblr, the author used the site make the plot community-driven, choosing reader-submitted commands to direct the cat's actions. I grew up playing some old school interactive fiction/text adventure games, so I ma...
A charming combination of picture book, wordless comic, and point-and-click adventure, with the story's original readers guiding Cat through a strange and possibly terrifying situation. The reader-led storytelling means the book meanders, but also creates an unusual sense of precariousness - what if they make Cat do something stupid? An experiment like this stands or falls on the quality of the art, and Wilgus pulls it off, with stylishly simple drawing that makes Cat a feline you're happy to sp...
Cute story and pretty pictures. Also cats. What more do you want?
A Stray in the Woods is a fine example of collaborative storytelling. Wilgus' art combined with action dictated by fans of the comic is at turns calming and unnerving with spectacular moments of wonder. It's a simple story, but I'd be hard pressed to find much else that is just as satisfying. Part of that satisfaction comes from the room available to place my own narrative on the thoughts of the characters and the meaning of events. On a personal note: This story actively helped relieve some of m...
A collaboration between the author and her readers, Wilgus took "suggestions" what Cat should do for each page of this web-comic. While she had a basic idea of the story she wanted to tell, the community helped shape Cat's adventures. Told in second person narrative, with simple, lovely illustrations, this is a wonderful book.
Sometimes pictures can tell a story. This was really cute.
A solid 4 stars for this creative, crowd-sourced effort. This (originally online) book was steadily created between Sep 2012 and May 2013. From a starting set of cat illustrations, readers would take part in the story's unfolding by submitting commands for the cat to perform, much like an old text adventure game. The author would then advance the story and artwork based on the command she selected. The written commands and consequences are preserved alongside the artwork, so you can see the give-...
I picked this book up at SPXafter rounding the corner from the ATM, and seeing the appealing cover. I had only to pour over a few pages before deciding that I would love this book. "A Stray in the Woods" is beautifully illustrated and brings you to a world that is so deep in only a few sentences, and as you follow along with readers' suggestions, it is difficult to know what will happen next. I am looking forward to reading it again.
Unique, well-crafted, fresh and amazingly new.
This book was a quick, enjoyable story. Wonderful art. A very fun collaboration project between the author and her Tumblr followers.
A very cute, and fun adventure. The artwork is lovely. An interesting take on writing a book, and one that manages to have a few surprises as well. :)
This is a great read! Simple yet intriguing, and it has that flow between the storyteller and the reader as to make it feel like a tale you'd hear around a fire (not too wordy, but enough so to transport you with the help of illustrations). It feels real whilst also fantastical, achieving a fine balance between the two. It actually reminds me quite a lot of the stories I heard while attending the National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough, TN (something I'd recommend every lover of stories t...
