My Locs Rock! is an ode to unapologetic personal identity, a warning against conformity, and a celebration of proud, vibrant, and individual style. A message to every girl and boy - embrace the natural beauty of who you are. Don't let society change or define your originality. The girls wear their hair proudly, but not everyone at school is as taken with
their locs as they’d like them to be. What at first seem like admiring stares,
soon turns out to be far less friendly, as the girls find out that some people
just don’t want you to look different from them.
When life gets to them—and tries to tell them what to do with their hair—it’s
up to Mom to show the girls that their loc curls are part of themselves, and if
they hold back from expressing themselves through their hair, what they’re
really doing is apologizing to the world for who—or even what—they are. And
that won’t fly in Mom’s book!
